The ride costs £15 per horse or pony. Bookings can be made for arrival between 9am -11am, 11am -1pm and 1-3pm. You may spend as long as you wish on the ride, but we ask you to be finished riding by 5.30pm.
Booking is done online. You must read the disclaimer and tick to say that everyone who will be using the ride in your booking has read this and will abide by the conditions. It is a requirement that everyone using the ride has public liability insurance with a minimum cover of £2million. The disclaimer can be found here:
Once you have booked you will receive an automatic email confirmation. At least 24 hours prior to arrival you will be emailed with the code for the gate lock and sent a printable map of the ride.
Bookings are restricted to a maximum of 4 horses/ponies per session, so you will have the time and space to enjoy the ride at your own speed. Where you do meet other riders on the course please pass each other considerately. If you wish to bring a larger group please email kitty@wellvalecountryride.co.uk or call 07970 801661 to arrange.
Carriages are welcome but please contact us on kitty@wellvalecountryride.co.uk or call 07970 801661 to pre-book a slot as we keep carriage drivers and riders separate. If you and friends wish to bring a combination of driven and ridden horses, that is fine, but we know some riders prefer not to meet a carriage when out for a leisurely ride!
The ride is suitable for most ages and abilities, with a minimum age of 8 years for riders. The full ride is 8 miles long, but there are points where a loop can be omitted to give shorter options. All the jumps are cross country in style and of solid construction, and range from approximately 40cm-80cm. They are completely optional.
Lone riders are discouraged but are permitted with certain restrictions. Please read the disclaimer for further details. You could also pop a post on our facebook page to try and find someone to ride with you.
Woodland tracks
Some of the tracks through the woodland are newly established and may have softer ground in places so please only walk through these areas. Please also be aware that deer are commonly found in the woods. There is a short steep uphill stretch towards the end. Carriages and nervous/novice riders and horses may bypass this by following the carriage signs.
Organised events
We do not organise events but are happy for appropriately insured groups, such as riding clubs, to arrange group rides and will exclusively book the ride for this purpose. Please contact kitty@wellvalecountryride.co.uk to arrange.
Training and Trainers
This is a country ride rather than a cross country training facility, and as such the fences are straightforward and spread over a large area, making it unsuitable for serious cross country training or cross country lessons. If you would like to bring your trainer with you to supervise your riding or jumping you are most welcome, provided they are fully qualified and insured, and abide by the terms in the disclaimer. It is likely that they will also need to be mounted in order to supervise you due to the layout of the ride.
